Over the two days several courses will be worked. Each course will be broken down into sections to discuss, plan and run sections with different handling options based on the handler, course and the dog. Courses will allow for independent course walking with consultation on the different options that can be taken and why Marita would choose certain handling skills for the fastest, best line for the dog. After independent waling and consultation attendees will run the course in sections, this will include contacts and discussions will be held in regard to contacts and the best way to train them. This is an advanced course and requires that each working spot attendee has fundamental agility skills in place for both themselves and their dog. Auditor spots are welcome for those wanting to learn without participating in the action. Objectives:

Your workshop Instructor – Marita Davies
Agility is not just a sport for Marita but rather a way of life, after breaking her back at 15 years old her life changed dramatically. Marita had always been very sport oriented, and before her accident competed in many different sports including trampolining, dancing, netball, tag rugby and gymnastics, however she never felt overly passionate about any of them. On her road to recovery, she came across agility and fell in love with the sport. Agility gave her the focus, passion and determination to make her health the best it could be by working on diet, mindset and physical condition. Marita has always been a huge animal lover and grew up with two Jack Russell’s and a Weimaraner. At 19 years of age she bought her first dog Isla. Marita started teaching tricks to Isla when she was a puppy which furthered her interest in dog training. Trick training has been one of the most critical aspects of training her dogs, Marita doesn’t believe they would have the same skills in agility, life or communication if they had not all learnt their array tricks. Marita still trick trains with her dogs several times a week, and it is an important part of their warmup routine. Marita believes agility is like any other sport and to perform you need to work on the whole package and not just the agility training. I view myself and my dogs as athletes, and so our training program reflects this. There is no quick route to success, but instead, you get there from the accumulation of incremental gains in all aspects of your training. This belief has led me to my work in coaching and helping others not only with agility training but also with all of the other important aspects that create the whole package. Marita is an international agility competitor at a Championship level. She has completed for the Team GB at the European Open, Team England at the World Agility Open and at Crufts.
