Your Webinar Description:

Before we begin our exploration of these ancient traditions, it is important to establish the scope of this session. This webinar offers an introductory, complementary perspective on canine wellness; it is designed to work in harmony with, not as a replacement for, evidence-based veterinary medicine or professional behavioral therapy. Our goal is to provide a supplemental lens for viewing your dog’s health. All participants are encouraged to continue working closely with their veterinary teams to address clinical diagnoses and medical treatments.

Understanding the Whole Dog

This session serves as a comprehensive introduction to the foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and its specific relevance to our canine companions. We will move beyond the idea of dogs as an accumulation of isolated symptoms, instead learning to view them as interconnected wholes. Participants will explore the core pillars of TCM—diet, herbs, acupuncture, massage, and movement—and how these modalities support overall canine health and systemic balance.

Core Concepts and Theory

We will dive into the functional organ networks and their corresponding energy channels, known as meridians. The webinar will also provide a breakdown of:

  • The Five Element Theory: Understanding various animal typologies and temperaments.
  • Fundamental Dualities: Exploring Yin and Yang, as well as the concepts of Excess and Deficiency.

The Intersection of Energy and Behavior

Grounded in the TCM view that physical, emotional, and mental energy are inseparable, we will examine how the excess, depletion, or stagnation of energy can contribute to both physical discomfort and emotional/behavioral dysregulation.

You will learn how modern living conditions can inadvertently foster imbalance and how TCM tools can be integrated into a broader wellness plan—one that includes environmental management, human emotional regulation, and providing dogs with greater agency. This session is designed for both guardians and pet professionals who wish to deepen their understanding of health, balance, and behavior through the traditional TCM lens.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the Foundations of TCVM
  • Define the core pillars of Traditional Chinese Medicine—diet, herbs, acupuncture, massage, and movement—and explain how they translate into Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM).
  • Describe the functional organ networks and their corresponding meridian energy channels in the canine body.
  • Analyze the Five-Element Theory, including how elements influence one another and how they manifest in specific animal typologies.
  • Summarize foundational TCM concepts, specifically the balance of Yin and Yang and the relationship between Excess and Deficiency.
  1. Conceptualize the TCM View of Health
  • Articulate the TCM philosophy that physical, emotional, and mental energies are an inseparable continuum.
  • Explain how the stagnation, depletion, or excess of energy serves as a root cause for both physical ailments and emotional/behavioral dysregulation.

III. Apply TCM Principles to Modern Canine Care

  • Evaluate how modern canine living conditions and environments can contribute to chronic energy dysregulation.
  • Integrate TCM-based relief tools into a holistic wellness plan that incorporates environmental management, human emotional regulation, and the promotion of canine agency.
