Your Webinar Description:
This presentation supports the information in my book ‘Engage the Senses’, which details the importance of giving dogs time to process their world. Providing dogs with opportunities to engage their senses is wider than simply giving food in puzzle toys – it is true enrichment. Based on the philosophy that dogs lead lives which are largely human-controlled to varying degrees, there is a moral responsibility to ensure that natural needs are met while still providing dogs with opportunities to exercise choice, show preferences, and to be self-directed rather than always responding to cues.
This presentation focuses on what guardians and professionals alike might do differently, with an understanding of mindful and meaningful opportunities, without the need for rigid training protocols.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify and understand the role of canine senses: taste, touch, scent, sound and sight.
- Recognise the importance of choice-led sensory activities and how they support canine well-being for all dogs.
- Set up and facilitate a simple, safe sensory session for dogs.
- Use basic data collection methods to gather meaningful feedback and identify individual preferences.
