Webinar Description

Predatory behaviour is one of the most misunderstood behavioural systems in dogs.
Many common training approaches focus on suppressing the behaviour without fully understanding the biological mechanisms that drive it.

For dog professionals working with high prey-drive dogs, a deeper understanding of the biological foundations of predation is essential.

In this webinar, Simone Müller explores the evolutionary, neurological, and motivational roots of predatory behaviour in domestic dogs. By looking at predation as a biological behavioural system rather than a training problem, professionals can develop more effective, ethical, and needs-based approaches to working with these dogs.

The webinar will connect insights from behavioural biology, neurochemistry, and applied dog training, providing a framework that helps professionals better understand why predatory behaviour emerges, why it can be so persistent, and how this knowledge can inform more thoughtful training strategies.

This session is designed for dog trainers, behaviour consultants, and other canine professionals who want to deepen their understanding of predatory behaviour and refine their work with highly motivated hunting dogs.

Learning Objectives

After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the biological and evolutionary origins of predatory behaviour in dogs
  •  Identify the functional components of the predatory sequence and how they appear in domestic dogs
  • Understand the role of neurochemistry and internal reinforcement in maintaining predatory behaviour
  • Recognise why predatory behaviour is often highly resistant to traditional training approaches
  • Differentiate between training challenges and biologically driven behaviour systems
  • Integrate a biology-informed perspective when designing training plans for dogs with strong predatory motivation
  • Better support clients living with high prey-drive dogs through realistic and needs-based training strategies
