Your Webinar Description:
Stop Pulling Your Hair Out and Start Moving the Needle.
As a dog trainer, you know the recipe for success. You’ve laid out the steps, demonstrated the skills, and provided the roadmap. But then… nothing happens. The “homework” goes untouched, the habits don’t change, and the dog stays stuck. It’s easy to feel frustrated, discouraged, or even a little bit resentful.
“My client is just non-compliant.” It’s a phrase we’ve all used, but what if that label is actually the thing standing in the way of the breakthrough? Drawing on years of experience as a classroom teacher turned dog trainer, Kay dives deep into the psychology of instruction. We’ll peel back the layers of why “compliance” is a loaded term and explore what is actually happening when a client stalls.
If you’re ready to save your sanity, ditch the labels, and discover how to support your clients so they (and their dogs) finally get the results they’re paying for, this webinar is for you.
Learning Objectives:
In this session, you will discover:
- The Trap of the Label: How labeling a client as “non-compliant” subconsciously shifts your teaching style and sabotages the client’s ability to learn.
- Redefining Resistance: A deep dive into what “non-compliance” actually looks like vs. what it is—understanding the gap between instruction and implementation.
- The Power of Reframing: Practical, empathetic alternatives to negative labels that will help you stay curious rather than furious.
- The Responsibility Audit: Insights from the world of education on where a coach’s responsibility ends and a learner’s begins, and how your core beliefs dictate your business’s success.
Your Presenters- Kay Williams, M.Ed., CPDT-KA, CSAT, FDM
A career educator at heart, Kay Williams discovered her passion for dogs while fostering retired racing Greyhounds. Her first Border Collie, Alice, served as a therapy dog in Kay’s school, providing unconditional love to the children who needed it most. However, it was her second Border Collie, Dawson—whose leash reactivity challenged everything Kay knew—that became the catalyst for her deep dive into dog training. Discovering science-based strategies that genuinely improved life for both canine and human changed her trajectory forever.
Before transitioning to the world of dogs, Kay spent nearly three decades in the public school system teaching music and general education, while maintaining a private home violin studio. A versatile performer, she has directed choirs and played in everything from symphony orchestras to bluegrass bands.
While still in the classroom, Kay began her formal studies in canine behavior. Upon retiring from public education, she founded KK9 Dog Training in Loveland, Colorado. She quickly realized that moving from teaching children to teaching dogs and their humans was certainly a lateral move: Good teaching is always good teaching. The techniques and best practices Kay honed over decades are now the backbone of her training philosophy.
Today, KK9’s local operations are managed by a talented former client-turned-dog-trainer, allowing Kay to work with Separation Anxiety clients and collaborate on complex reactivity cases. In 2025, Kay earned her CSAT (Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer) credential, citing Malena DeMartini’s program as a pivotal influence in her journey. Kay’s mission remains clear: providing the coaching and positive support necessary for families and dogs to thrive in peaceful, enriched environments.
